Melbourne Skyline

I've been feeling a little down over the past couple of days. I fall into this cycle of wanting to make plans, goals, a schedule for everything in my life- so far as to only choose subjects which have lectures on certain days so I can work more during the week. It becomes a little obsessive compulsive after a while, and when it collapses, so do I. It sounds a little silly, but when I set my expectations on anything other than God, they crumble and I get miserable about it.

I've been reading a bit of Kierkegaard lately. We studied him in my French Philosophy class, and I've picked up a few of his other works (namely Fear and Trembling) to try and understand his ideas a little better. I appreciate much of what he has to say- especially about the church and its power with the monarch. In Fear and Trembling he describes two types of human beings- one who looks for happiness internally, and the other who looks for happiness externally. His idea of infinite resignation (that is the idea that one must give up everything he or she loves more than God) scares me as I find it incredibly difficult to trust so much in something that is completely intangible. Having said that, I'm learning to trust a little more- at least I hope I am and I'm trying to find my happiness internally (mentally to say the least, through this trust) and not have to rely upon physical external objects, ideas or people. This attempt, I believe, is the only way to find true contentment. Let's see how it goes.

The Last Night in Melby

When I was in Melby a while back, my good friend Dale hosted a little gathering at his apartment right in the middle of the city. It was good fun, plenty of laughs, made heaps of new amazing friends and the best way we could have spent our last night in Melbourne. Here's some snaps.

Subiaco Night Walk

The Subiaco council has once-a-month night photography walks in where a whole bunch of us parade around Rokeby Road and take pictures of certain sites. Here's some of my snaps from last weeks walk. It was really great because it was the first time in a while that I took out my digital camera to take snaps, and I picked up a lot of knowledge regarding aperture, shutter speed etc that I'd forgotten.

Winter Break

I've had a really nice winter break, but I'm ready to get back into the swing of things again. This semester I'll be studying two French units- one grammar unit and the other a French literature unit, plus Politics of the USA and Communication and Mass Media units. I have pretty leather moleskin notebooks and plenty of reading to get started on! I've done some cool things these holidays such as check out the Picasso and Warhol exhibition at the WA Art Gallery, spent a day browsing around the streets of Freo and South Fremantle, several visits to the Swan Valley chocolate factory, amongst other cool holiday type adventures. Just finished watching Game of Thrones- amazing. Also finished the entire season 1 of Girls in a day- amazing aswell. HBO is really on the money recently.

Other than that, I've shopped quite a bit in the holiday sales picking up this lace skater dress (above) from ASOS and this floral blue dress from Billie & Rose.

Tea and Stuff

Fi&co in Northbridge have a cute little complimentary tea place upstairs that Viv and I hung out at for far too long here. These snaps were from a while back when it was warm and sunny, now I'm snuggling in three jumpers, warm tea and a blanket. I'm craving summer again, sigh.

In other news, I just came home from seeing Take This Waltz with Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen. Whilst being aesthetically pleasing, the plotline was shotty and none of the characters desirable. I really wanted to love Michelle Williams, but I couldn't. She seemed like a selfish twat who needed a slap in the face, and as much as they tried to make Seth Rogen's character the bad guy I still sympathised immensely with him. All in all though, wouldn't have paid the $15 or so to watch it. Their house though, seemed so cosy and loving. I really want my house to look like that when I grow up.
